Foxit Reader is a multilingual PDF reader. The basic reader can be downloaded for free, while advanced plugins are available for a cost.
Foxit Reader is notable for its short load time[citation needed] and small filesize[citation needed], which are sometimes very favorable when compared to Adobe Reader[citation needed]. It is not able to read PDX files (searchable catalogs), which limits its utility for use with document collections.

Foxit Reader v2.x is available for 32-bit and 64-bit Microsoft Windows ME through Vista,[1] Windows Mobile 2003 and 5.0, and Windows CE 4.2 and 5.0. Foxit Reader allows Windows 98/ME to open Acrobat version 7 and 8 files, which the current version of Adobe's Acrobat reader for those operating systems will not.[2] It also supports the U3 smart drive when used with Windows 2000 or Windows XP. A test version for Linux exists, but it does not run on some Linux distributions released after 2006 like Ubuntu Edgy and Fedora 9.[3]
Foxit Reader v1.3 is the latest version which runs on Windows 95 and NT 4.0, v2.0 the latest for Windows 98. It can be downloaded from [4]. According to the developers a further version will support Windows 98 again.
Foxit Reader displays one of several advertising icons on the upper right side of its main toolbar. Prior to version 2.3, each different advertisement icon could be hidden from the View menu, with a different advertisement displayed each time the reader was opened until each one had been hidden. Currently, however, hiding an advertisement icon only hides it for the current session the reader is open.
On August 4th, 2007 a computer virus was discovered in a Foxit Reader addon called Foxit Editor. The virus affected Foxit Editor 2.0 Beta Build 2003.[5]
On May 20 2008, Secunia issued a critical buffer overflow alert. This was remedied in version 2.3.2923.[6]
