PGP可以解釋為Pretty Good Privacy（漢語翻譯：相當好的隱私），是PGP公司的加密和／或簽名工具套件，使用了有商業版權的IDEA演算法並集成了有商業版權的PGPdisk工具，有別于開源的GPG（GnuPG）。PGP的主要開發者為菲利普·齊默曼（Philip R. Zimmermann）。齊默曼在志願者的幫助下，突破政府的禁止，于1991年將PGP在網際網路上免費發布。
