英国皇家空军（Royal Air Force，RAF）为英国军队的空军分支。皇家空军创始于1918年 4月1日，自此之后于英国军事史扮演重要角色，而于第二次世界大战及伊拉克战争等冲突扮演要角。英国空军有一千架以上飞行器，及45710位常备兵员（2007年统计）。

皇家空军旗在所有基地白天都要升起。设计者是乔治五世于1921年设计，后来被许多海军反对，皇家海军地位是很高的——可以否决任何船上或陆上的旗帜。

所以一次大战早期的空军是使用英国国旗（米字旗形图案），但是在空中很容易和德国空军的铁十字标志搞混。因此1914十月开始采用法国原创的同心圆样式，从中心向外依次为红白蓝三色。一年后改变了圆环的相对尺寸，后来二战时又加入了黄色圈。二战期间，在远东服役的飞机将徽标上的红色圈去除，以防止与日本的飞机混淆。从20世纪70年代开始，需要伪装的飞行器开始使用低可视度的圆徽，在深色伪装上采用红色和蓝色，而在浅色伪装色上采用稀释的粉红色和浅蓝色（either red and blue on dark camouflage, or washed-out pink and light blue on light colours.）。大部分不需要伪装的训练和运输航空器仍然保持了传统的红-白-蓝三色圆徽。

The Latin motto of the RAF, "Per Ardua ad Astra", is usually translated as "Through Adversity to the Stars"^[1]^[2]. The choice of motto is attributed to a junior officer by the name of J S Yule, in response to a request from a Commander of the RFC, Colonel Sykes, for suggestions.

The Badge of the Royal Air Force was first used in August 1918. In heraldic terms it is: "In front of a circle inscribed with the motto Per Ardua Ad Astra and ensigned by the Imperial Crown an eagle volant and affronty Head lowered and to the sinister."^[5] It was registered at the College of Arms on 26 January 1923.^[6] It was based on a design by a tailor at Gieves Ltd of Savile Row, although the original had an albatross rather than the eagle.

Since 2006 the RAF has adopted a new official logotype, shown at the top of this article. The logotype is used on all correspondence and publicity material, and aims to provide the service with a single, universally-recognizable brand identity.
