袋鼠是一类有袋类动物，属于袋鼠科（Macropodidae），“袋鼠”一词通常用来指袋鼠科中体型最大的几个物种。
一般而言，大型袋鼠面对人类在澳大利亚的开发有较高的适应力；相较之下，他们的许多小型亲戚则面临了较大的生存威胁，数量也较少。目前并没有大规模的袋鼠养殖业，不过野生的袋鼠会被猎杀并制成食用肉品，而此种产业也具有争议性[2]。
袋鼠是澳大利亚的象征物，出现在澳大利亚国徽中[3]，以及一些澳大利亚货币图案上[4]。许多澳大利亚的组织团体，如澳大利亚航空[5]，也将袋鼠作为其标志。
