Gnash 计划致力于发展一个播放 Flash 的免费播放器或插件，来取代现有的 Adobe Flash Player.
历史
Gnash 计划是 GNU 计划中的高优先开发计划(详见 高优先免费软件计划 (High Priority Free Software Projects ))， 在 Gnash 计划之前，GNU 曾经要求社群帮助 GPLFlash 计划，而现在 GPLFlash 计划的主要开发人员都已经移往 Gnash 计划，已经存在的 GPLFlash 计划未来将会专注于嵌入式系统。
Gnash 主要的发行版是基于 GNU GPL 的规范，然而因为 Gnash 是使用 GameSWF 计划的核心程式，Gnash 开发的程式能使用在 GameSWF 上。
技术细节
Adobe 提供了 Linux 在 x86 上的官方的播放器，以 binary 形式发布，但是并没有支援其他的处理器架构，然而 Gnash 可以被编译以及执行在许多架构上，包含 x86、 AMD64、MIPS/Irix、PowerPC，也支援了 BSD-base 的操作系统，早期是移植到并没有被 Adobe 支援的 RISC OS 平台，以及早期移殖到 BeOS 上。
Flash 实际上由两种不同的档案型态组成，SWF 通常被人误认为就是 Flash
